Arthroscopic Hip Surgery

Comprehensive Hip Care with Mr. Nasr and Colleagues

While Mr. Nasr does not offer arthroscopic hip surgery himself, he collaborates closely with esteemed colleagues who specialize in this minimally invasive procedure, including a specialist based in Oxford. This partnership ensures that patients have access to a full spectrum of treatment options for hip conditions, tailored to their specific needs.

What Is Arthroscopic Hip Surgery?

Arthroscopic hip surgery involves inserting a small camera called an arthroscope into the hip joint. This allows the surgeon to view the inside of the joint on a monitor and perform surgical procedures using specialized instruments through small incisions. The minimally invasive nature of this technique often results in less pain and a quicker recovery compared to traditional open surgery.

Gluteal Syndrome

What is Gluteal Syndrome?

Gluteal Syndrome refers to a collection of conditions affecting the muscles, tendons, and soft tissues in the gluteal (buttock) region. It is often characterised by pain, weakness, and discomfort in the buttocks, hips, or lower back. The syndrome can be caused by overuse, injury, or inflammation of the gluteal muscles and the surrounding structures, such as tendons or nerves.

Comprehensive Fracture Treatments

A bone fracture is a medical condition where a bone is cracked or broken, disrupting its continuity. While many fractures result from high-impact forces or stress, certain medical conditions like osteoporosis can also weaken bones, making them more susceptible to fractures.

  • Simple Fractures: Straightforward fractures that can often be managed with non-invasive techniques like casting or splinting.
  • Complex Lower Limb Fractures: Severe injuries involving multiple fractures, joints, or soft tissues, which may require surgical intervention.
  • Trauma-Related Fractures: High-energy injuries from accidents or falls, particularly in the pelvis, hip, and lower limbs.
  • Pathological Fractures: Fractures resulting from underlying conditions such as osteoporosis or bone cancer.

Patellofemoral Syndrome

Patellofemoral Syndrome, also known as Runner’s Knee, is a common cause of knee pain, particularly in individuals who engage in activities that involve repetitive knee movements, such as running, squatting, or climbing stairs. It occurs when the cartilage under the kneecap (patella) becomes irritated due to poor alignment or overuse, leading to pain and discomfort at the front of the knee.

Runner holding knee

What is Patellofemoral Syndrome?

Patellofemoral Syndrome refers to pain around or behind the kneecap that arises from problems with how the patella tracks in the femoral groove (the end of the thighbone). This can cause excessive pressure on the knee joint, leading to irritation of the cartilage or surrounding tissues.

While it’s often referred to as Runner’s Knee, this condition can affect anyone, not just athletes, and can be triggered by a variety of factors including overuse, muscle imbalance, or improper alignment of the knee joint.

Soft Tissue Knee Conditions

The knee is one of the most complex and essential joints in the body, enabling movement and supporting weight during activities like walking, running, and jumping. Beyond the bones, the knee comprises a network of soft tissues, including ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and muscles, which are crucial for stability and function. Injuries or conditions affecting these soft tissues can significantly impact your mobility and quality of life.

Ligament Injuries: ligaments are fibrous bands of tissue that connect bones to each other, providing stability to the knee joint.

Cartilage Damage: cartilage acts as a cushion and allows smooth movement of the knee joint.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS): the iliotibial band is a thick band of tissue running along the outside of the thigh.

Tendon Injuries: tendons connect muscles to bones and are essential for knee movement.

Bursitis: the knee contains fluid-filled sacs (bursae) that reduce friction.

Soft Tissue Hip Conditions

The hip is a complex joint supported by various muscles, tendons, and ligaments, which all work together to provide stability, mobility, and strength. However, these soft tissues are susceptible to injury, overuse, and degenerative changes. Soft tissue conditions of the hip can lead to pain, limited mobility, and reduced quality of life if not properly managed. This article covers common soft tissue conditions affecting the hip, their symptoms, and the treatments available to help you get back to an active lifestyle.

Soft Tissue Hip conditions

Hip Bursitis (Trochanteric Bursitis): Hip bursitis, also known as trochanteric bursitis, is inflammation of the bursa (a small, fluid-filled sac) that cushions the outside of the hip joint.

Hip Labral Tear: A hip labral tear involves damage to the ring of cartilage (labrum) that surrounds the hip socket.

Snapping Hip Syndrome: occurs when a tendon or muscle slides over a bony prominence in the hip, creating a snapping or popping sensation.

Adductor Strain (Groin Pull): an adductor strain, or groin pull, affects the muscles of the inner thigh.

Gluteal Tendinopathy (Gluteal Syndrome): Gluteal tendinopathy involves damage or inflammation of the tendons of the gluteal muscles, especially the gluteus medius and minimus.

Iliotibial (IT) Band Syndrome: The iliotibial (IT) band is a long band of connective tissue that runs from the hip down to the knee

Hip Flexor Strain: A hip flexor strain involves overstretching or tearing of the hip flexor muscles, often resulting from sudden movements or overuse in sports.

I had a knee replacement surgery at Three Shires. The care I received was excellent, all the staff were friendly and made me feel at ease. The surgery went well , Mr Nasr and Mr Tanner were both welcoming and explained everything to me and made sure that I understood what was going to be done, even the after care was excellent. My time in Three Shires was very relaxing and the staff were there for you anytime night or day. I would highly recommend going there for your treatment.

Had a TKR at Three Shires Hospital on 7/11/25. Right from the very begining I was told what would happen and how it would feel. I had a nerve block, and the lovely anesthetist said he would also give me sedation. I can remember going into the pre-op room, the next I remember was waking up in recovery. I can highly recommend this hospital, was really looked after. I went in as an NHS patient in a private hospital. Due to have the other knee done soon.Thank you.

Had appointment with Mr salha. A consultant at three shires hospital. when we arrived we found plenty of parking.well signed posted. And well-maintained. On entering the reception it was well light and very cleen. The receptionist was very polite and directed me to were i needed to be. The dowas on time.well managed And explain everything in detail that need to be done. Escorted me to the x-ray department. Then when x-ray was sent to his computer.he proceeded to point out the problem things and explain what the next step should be. FAQ's

Can a hip problem cause pain in the knee?

Yes. Pain from the hip can sometimes be felt in or around the knee. This is known as referred pain. Because knee pain can also come from the knee itself or another area, a clinical assessment may be needed to identify the source.

Which hip and knee conditions does Mr Pierre Nasr assess?

Mr Pierre Nasr assesses a range of hip and knee problems, including gluteal syndrome, patellofemoral pain syndrome, fractures, and soft-tissue conditions affecting the muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and bursae. He does not currently perform ACL surgery or arthroscopic hip surgery, although he works with specialist colleagues who offer hip arthroscopy.

Do all hip and knee conditions require surgery?

No. Treatment depends on the condition, its severity and how it affects you. Options may include activity changes, physiotherapy, injections, shockwave therapy or other non-surgical care. Surgery may be considered when it is appropriate for the diagnosis or when non-surgical treatment has not provided enough relief.

Can soft-tissue hip and knee conditions be treated without surgery?

Yes. Some soft-tissue conditions can be managed with non-surgical treatment, depending on the affected tissue and the severity of the problem. Treatment may include physiotherapy, changes to activity, injections or shockwave therapy. Mr Pierre Nasr will recommend an approach based on your diagnosis and individual needs.

What hip or knee symptoms need urgent medical attention?

Seek urgent medical advice if the joint is very painful, hot, red or badly swollen, particularly if you feel feverish or unwell. You should also get urgent help if you cannot walk or put weight on the leg, the joint has changed shape, or you have severe pain, tingling or loss of feeling after an injury.

How can I tell whether my pain is coming from my hip or my knee?

The location of the pain alone may not make the cause clear. Hip problems can cause pain in the groin, thigh or knee, while knee conditions may cause pain around the kneecap, joint line or back of the knee. Mr Pierre Nasr can assess your symptoms, movement and joint function to help determine where the pain is coming from.
